Really? Is this the future? Because if it is, then I would like to have no part in it.

 Role Playing Guidlines
« Thread Started on Jul 18, 2006, 11:54am »

I thank you for reading this, it is not as important as the rules but it may help people who are not so experienced in Role Playing.

Role Playing Rules

- Do not abbreviate In Character. When you say things like "lol" or "omg" or "btw" or all that chat abbreviations that people use on MSN, etc. If you are going to Role Play Harry Potter's world then you are going to Role Play it the way J.K. Rowling had made it. By writing out every single word with abbreviations. We don't see J.K. Rowling doing this:

Example: Harry lol, "Omg! Hermy, you're kl. Btw, I thought u died. H.a.g.s."

Maybe, I did it a little over board but that is what some people do on Role Playing sites and no one likes it. Except, for that one person who uses abbreviation.

- When you type your Character's actions, do not use:

Example: I dances across the field.

When you should really be using: He danced across the field. Make sure that you are using Past Tense, which is anything that has happened in the past, and third-person.

- When you are Role-Playing, be realistic. I do not want to see first years doing things that they shouldn't or a Minister of Magic acting like a 5 year old in front of his co-workers. Yes, this rules is about: Acting your character's age and acting realistic.

- Sometimes, the best way to make an extremely good post is to get into a storyline. You don't just post somewhere and expect people to join in and do whatever you want them to do. You have to PM the other character and plan things out with them. Use the private messaging system to talk to other posters and plan things out. Do not worry, it's all a game. So, you can PM a person who is a totally different affiliation (Slytherin PMing a Gryffindor, Brotherhood PMing X-Men, etc., and Vice Versa, as well).

- This happens a lot because it is very popular. Controlling other people's characters. Sometimes, you don't realize it, or you are just excited about a plot and want someone to play along. But, seriously, people don't think what you do. So, PM them nicely. But still, do NOT control other people's characters, it's not cool and no one likes it.

- Sometimes you want to Role Play with a certain type of people, or just anyone for that matter, but sometimes, you just can't. No one is stopping you but mostly, it is best not to. If you jump into a thread where people don't want another person in and you say: "Heya, how you doin'?" Either, they will ignore you, or if they are building up on a plot or they just don't want another person, they tell you to get lost.

Example: Damien and Lizzie are having a nice time together at the lawns, getting to know one another. They both want to be alone- private. So, if you just go in and say, "Heya, Dam, wanna see my frog collection?" It's just going to ruin the whole thread. Don't interrupt, even if you have a thing on Damien/ Lizzie.

Best thing to do is to leave them alone, join another thread at the lawns or make a thread at the lawns. It's not hard.

Well, if you are going to jump into a thread, be aware of what's going on. Know who is in the room or who is involved in the situation. Know what happened before, not just what's going on at the moment and the make a fool out of yourself, even when you are in a 10 paged thread with a friend.

- One o f the worst things is when someone is a fight with someone In Character and then they take it Out Of Character. For one, it is just pathetic. Or they think just because someone plays a character a certain way doesn't mean they are like that, too, in Real Life. If you have a problem with them, In Character, do not bring it Out Of Character threads.

- When you post, try to be as creative as you can, because creativity is what really brings people into good Role Players, not their grammar or their smarts, etc. But how creative they are and how much they post. The more you post, the more creative you are. So, make sure that when you make a post, you think things through. You think of how unique and interesting it should be, etc.

- I would appreciate it if people use Grammar and Spelling, you aren't (or weren't) going to school to learn Grammar and Spelling and then come here and use neither of them! If you need to know how to spell something or need to check your Grammar, I am sure there is some sort of program on your computer that checks it for you.

- I am sure that being put to school, you can write up more than one sentence, right? Maybe even more than a paragraph. You can not be put through exams, tests, etc. And "Ace" them without writing more than a word or a sentence. You must have written A LOT. So, this rule is saying that: One Liners are frowned upon in the Role Playing world, not that no one likes them, no one really wants to Role Play with them because people want to be creative and have fun. And One Liners, seeing as they write stuff like: "Bob jumped the fence," You are not going to find creativity or interesting-ness from them. No, don't One-Line, otherwise, this site will convert to using the Minimum Lettering Amount Code which is also frowned upon.

Thank you once again, to Role Play well you must know how to Role Play well.

I do not know if victory is possible. I only know that great sacrifice will be required.

And because the fate of many will depend on a few, we must make a last stand.
